Dr. Angelo Appiotti performed PRK surgery with the aid of the PSP (Personal Sportsman Profile) programme, that he devised for all professional athletes to improve one’s vision and, most importantly, make it more stable, accurate and faster at every change in distance and light.
Laser surgery was needed to treat the athlete’s unequal compound myopic astigmatism in both eyes: he did not tolerate contact lenses and quite obviously could not wear eyeglasses during matches due to the very physical nature of rugby. His low visual acuity as well as his poor visual and postural balance were significantly affecting his athletic performance while also increasing the number of injuries. The surgery allowed Denis to get rid of contact lenses for good.
The final result was 16/10 natural visual acuity.
