Dr. Angelo Appiotti used TLCT (Two Laser Combined Technique) with the aid of the PSP (Personal Sportsman Profile) programme, that he devised for professional athletes to improve one’s vision and, most importantly, make it more stable, accurate and faster at every change in distance and light.
Surgery was needed to correct high myopia associated with medium-high myopic astigmatism in both eyes, since they were significantly impairing Kakà’s performance. The athlete could barely tolerate contact lenses, which anyway did not perfectly correct his astigmatism and would move during sprints, headers, or fast lateral movements.
Laser eye surgery allowed the athlete to eliminate contact lenses permanently, obtaining 20/10 natural visual acuity, which he still has ten years after the surgery.
