Supracor

A noninvasive laser procedure to correct presbyopia and restore good near vision that also minimizes side effects including visual field loss and reduced visual acuity.

A Viable Treatment Option for Presbyopia

Supracor offers an effective vision correction option for the simultaneous treatment of presbyopia and hyperopia. It is a multifocal treatment based on the combined use of the femtosecond laser and excimer laser (FemtoLASIK technique) in a one-step procedure. This procedure shapes the cornea in such a way as to make the eye focus both a distant and a near object onto the retina, leaving it up to the brain to select the one that is most useful at the moment. The results are comparable to those obtained with artificial lens implants.
As is the case for all types of refractive surgery procedures, patients undergo a preoperative examination including specific eye health tests to assess whether they can be cleared for surgery.

Supracor Technology

This procedure can be used to correct different types of presbyopia and is also indicated for patients who have previously undergone LASIK or cataract surgery. It guarantees the patient excellent near, intermediate and far vision while maintaining high visual quality. The procedure is performed with a high-tech laser system, the TECHNOLAS Excimer Workstation 217P, manufactured by the German company Technolas Perfect Vision GmbH.
In the first phase of the procedure a thin flap of corneal tissue is created with a Femtosecond laser on the outer surface of the eye. The flap is lifted out of the way to allow the surgeon to access the cornea.
The latest generation Teneo excimer laser is then used to precisely reshape the curvature of the cornea and thus correct presbyopia. The excimer laser makes use of the cutting-edge ACE (Advanced Control Eyetracking) technology: a dynamic tracker that, by recognizing the iris, records eye movements, pupil rotation and shift, and simultaneously adjusts the laser beam to ensure precise laser action throughout the procedure.
At the end of the procedure, the previously raised flap is returned to its natural position. The eye thus has a chance to heal naturally.
The whole procedure only takes a few minutes.

L’intera procedura richiede solo pochi minuti.

Visual Recovery and Risks of Supracor

Visual recovery

Healing and improvement of visual acuity are rapid. Symptoms such as discomfort and burning are limited to the first day. The day after surgery the patient can do without reading glasses already as the improvement in near vision is immediate.

Potential risks and complications

In the best candidates the only undesirable effect might be myopization in the first few months after surgery, with excellent near vision without glasses and slight far vision fatigue for a few months, especially in night vision.
